A Guide to Off-shoring – Make or Buy for High Value Manufacturing?
What is the true “Landed Cost”?
Can the UK recover a sustainable manufacturing base for the future?

As the politicians now turn their heads back towards manufacturing as a cornerstone to realise exports and the UK’s economic recovery, this seminar evaluates the considerations to develop a successful global supply chain, particularly for the electronics sector, and how customers should evaluate the real economic landed cost when considering “make” or “buy”.

There is still a widespread perception that off-shoring is an easy way to cut costs. The reality is that it can be substantially different. Some companies that previously off-shored failed to consider the impact of the many factors involved.

Although overseas labour may be considered cheaper, other factors such as transport costs, exchange Rate fluctuations, speed of redesign and IP/counterfeiting concerns must also be taken into account.

When making a decision about off-shoring, there is a need for companies to make a valued, impartial judgement, based on the best Information available.

This event will cover pitfalls in off-shoring, failing to consider hidden costs, i.e. communication difficulties and varying work cultures.

We will also discuss the benefits of off-shoring. There will be cases where due to the nature of the product and certain aspects of the manufacture requirements, the risks of off-shoring could be minimised and cost savings could be possible.

Each delegate will also be given a complimentary copy of the “Guide to Off-shoring – the total cost of Manufacture”.
