Following the successful delivery of a TSB-funded feasibility study, Simon Hedges, director of Exeter-based KineticaRT, presented a project summary to the TSB Collaboration Nation audience in London on 31 March. The elevator pitch highlighted the need to allow more elderly people to live independently, the benefits of the proposed low-cost minimally intrusive Activity of Daily Life monitor and KineticaRT’s need for partners and funding to take the project forward.

Nearly two-thirds of commercial innovation stems from small companies and they are a vital source of wealth-generating new products. In September 2009 the Technology Strategy Board announced two competitions for companies to propose Feasibility Studies. It has now released directories of the winning proposals, containing details of each company and the successful project, so that potential future collaborators or investors can get to know the companies involved, understand an area where the company has just undertaken a product Feasibility Study and the companies wider areas of expertise.

The Collaboration Nation Event Programme The Collaboration Nation - Inspiring Innovations for a Digital Britain event is focused on the winners from the Technology Strategy Board's fasibility studies competition launched in autumn 2009. It is relevant to everyone who is interested in innovation and technology collaboration in the digital field. The event programme has been designed with plenty of opportunity to make new connections and to discuss future collaborations. Collaboration Nation - Inspiring Innovations for a Digital Britain opens at 0830 and closes at approximately 1630 on Once you are registered to attend the event you will be able to manage your own diary of the day. The recent announcement by the Technology Strategy Board of two competitions to fund Feasibility Studies in particular areas has proved very popular. With over £3m on offer in grants and an easy application process many companies are welcoming these as very positive examples of support for the innovative, but smaller, UK enterprises.

The Technology Strategy Board has made available £2M to SME companies (250 or less) for Feasibility Studies to support their Digital Britain work. Companies can apply for grants of upto £25k (representing 75% of project costs) in a simple competition. The Electronics KTN is organising two free half day workshops for companies interested in applying - 14th September in London and 21st September in Sheffield. Companies interested in bidding for funds are encouraged to attend one of the events to learn the full details of the competition.
