The Connected World SIG has been established to bring together the interests of those companies and engineers work on the new technologies that will  connect people, machines and "things" together - sometimes termed the "Internet of Things".  The aim is to include the core technologies - such as AIDC, RFID etc and the emerging networks - e.g. Sensor Networks and link these to the Challenge Lead initiatives - such as Low Impact Buildigns or Assisted Living.

The SIG area of the site is divided into main sections:

     covering traditional AIDC technologies

     covering the emerging Sensor Network and "Internet of Things" technologies

2. Enabling technologies for the internet In an increasingly open innovation ecosystem, SMEs will play an even stronger role than in the past. What opportunities lay ahead for UK SMEs to leverage the UK's world-class academic research, and taking it to adoption and market? Speakers from the Technology Strategy Board and project winners will provide information on commercial collaboration opportunities
3. Application & services for Digital Britain The UK has one of the strongest, most advanced and most complete digital ecosystem on the planet. What challenges and opportunities ahead are there for UK firms to generate the next generation applications leveraging this unique national asset? 4. Deployment and operation of digital infrastructure The UK faces challenges and cost to upgrade and manage its digital infrastructure. Compact and mobile low power temperature sensor device with integrated GPS and GPRS - We are seeking a compact and mobile low power temperature sensor device with integrated GPS and GPRS. Battery life should be at least 7 days before recharging is required. Should also have an "airplane mode" i.e. will not transmit whilst on plane but should be able to store temperature readings whilst in this mode. This could possibly be done with a motion sensor and/or air pressure sensor. Should also be able to take and store temperature readings every 5-10 minutes for at least 7 days.
