South Korea has adopted the Act for "Resource Recycling of Electrical & Electronic Products and Automobiles" which was due to come into force on 1 January 2008. This Act, incorporates aspects of EU-RoHS, EU WEEE and EU End of Life of Vehicles Directives. The scope of the Act includes electronic products operated by electricity and magnetic field, as well as automotives.
The Act states that manufacturers will be required to restrict the use of hazardous substances (unless no substitutes exist). The substances and concentrations have not yet been announced but are expected to be the same as those used in EU-RoHS, with manufacturers/ importers needing to complete a self declaration process (through a South Korean Government website) that they are complying with the law.
To date no official English translation of the Korean RoHS legislation have been made available. However, an unoffical draft of the Act can be downloaded from the Eco-Frontier website - Korea RoHS (pdf).
