SKA 2010 - Unique opportunity to meet the SKA developers from round the world - register by 5th March - The SKA is an iconic project for the electronics sector as it brings together the skills of both academics and industry to meet one of the most challenging developments of our time. To design and build the world's largest radio telescope is a project that requires global collaborations - and 1.5 Billion Euros! However the advances required to achieve the project's goals are also those advances required by industry for tomorrow data communication and data processing solutions. High speed communications, low noise & low power electronics, data processing based on multicore DSP and supercomputing technologies. SKA 2010 is being held in Manchester between 22nd and 25th March. This year's event may well mark the tipping point from academic research into engineering - and so is an ideal time for companies to participate in a unique conference bringing together the world's leading developers to discuss current progess and the next steps. Review of Technology World 09 - Technology World is the main event that promotes UK technology and innovation to the world. Organised by UKTI the event comprises a conference, an exhibition and "speed dating" business to business meetings. This year there were over 1300 delegates at the event from 550 UK and 200 overseas companies (from over 50 countries). The Electronics KTN brought together a dozen companies and universities that illustrated the UK's science strengths in the area of electronics. The major themes were the SKA and the Grand Challenges programmes. The exhibitors covered topics from the largest radio telescope in the world to the smallest medical sensing devices. The robotic hand from Shadow Robots attracted attention from many people - this is a company that is now a world leader and started as a hobby. We were pleased to have STFC on the stand to discuss their Knowledge Exchange programmes. The TW09 webpage on the site gives an overview of the event, as well as some of the highlights. SKA 2010 is intended to be in the spirit of previous SKA science and engineering meetings, which were influential in shaping the direction of the SKA. However, now that the SKA has entered the system design phase, this meeting will have a greater focus on system and engineering decisions, and their impact on the scientific observations to be conducted by the SKA.

SKA activity world-wide is gathering pace as the project moves towards funding and site decisions in a few years time. PrepSKA and its sub-system verification programs, TDP, SKADS, and the precursor and pathfinder projects, are all contributing to the body of knowledge needed for the costed system design and SKA implementation plan to be delivered at the end of PrepSKA. On the astronomical side, the SKA science case is being refined and deepened through the focus on multi-wavelength observations and science simulations being carried out around the world.

The aim of SKA2010 is to bring the astronomical and engineering community together to discuss:
* The latest astronomical results in SKA-relevant areas,
* The status of engineering studies for the SKA systems and sub-systems, and
* Design/science trade-off issues for the SKA.

The results of these discussions are likely to have substantial impact on the direction of the international project, including a possible revision of the science priorities for the SKA.
