SKA - Meet the teams - evening event March 24th in Manchester
by Nigel Rix (11 March 2010)
The SKA is one of the most advanced development projects being undertaken jointly by academics and industry. With teams spread throughout the globe it is very difficult to meet all the experts who are interested in working with industry.
We are holding an event on Wednesday 24th March at Manchester Museum between 6pm and 9pm to give UK companies the opportunity to make contacts with the experts. To register go to: www.regonline.co.uk/ska_meet_the_teams
The SKA programme aims to develope the most advanced radio telescope ever conceived. The instrument is designed to advance the study of the universe and answer some of the fundamental questions.
However, it also represents the world's largest and most advanced data acquisition, data processing, data transport and data analysis system. With enough fibre optic cables to go round the world ten times, the capacity to carry the world's internet traffic and a supercomputer 100 times faster than any of today's equipment. The advances undertaken as part of the SKA will define the advances in data processing and IT systems for many years. The spin-out benefits for industry are very significant.
This event will allow UK companies to meet international experts and academics who are at the leading edge of their fields. Attendance is free to UK companies registered for the main conference but any UK comapny can register via the special EKTN site - see link below or click
