SKA - Meet the teams - evening event March 24th in Manchester - The SKA is one of the most advanced development projects being undertaken jointly by academics and industry. With teams spread throughout the globe it is very difficult to meet all the experts who are interested in working with industry. We are holding an event on Wednesday 24th March at Manchester Museum between 6pm and 9pm to give UK companies the opportunity to make contacts with the experts. SKA 2010 - Unique opportunity to meet the SKA developers from round the world - register by 5th March - The SKA is an iconic project for the electronics sector as it brings together the skills of both academics and industry to meet one of the most challenging developments of our time. To design and build the world's largest radio telescope is a project that requires global collaborations - and 1.5 Billion Euros! However the advances required to achieve the project's goals are also those advances required by industry for tomorrow data communication and data processing solutions. High speed communications, low noise & low power electronics, data processing based on multicore DSP and supercomputing technologies. SKA 2010 is being held in Manchester between 22nd and 25th March. This year's event may well mark the tipping point from academic research into engineering - and so is an ideal time for companies to participate in a unique conference bringing together the world's leading developers to discuss current progess and the next steps. Meet the teams and understand the needs - SKA 2010 - A project as large as the Square Kilometre Array has many teams developing the technologies and it can be difficult to get a full appreciation of all the aspects. This year companies in the UK have a unique opportunity to fully understand the project and make international contacts. SKA2010 is the International SKA Science and Engineering meeting and will be held in Manchester 22nd - 25th March. All research and development teams will be represented and the event covers 4 days of talks and discussion groups on all the aspects of the project. The opportunity to meet teams from all over the globe working at the leading edge of their industries represents an opportunity to see the latest developments and make contacts with leading companies and academics. Tuesday covers many of the technologies of interest to the UK and Wednesday has been allocated to an "industry focussed" day with discussion groups to maximise the interactions. On the Wednesday evening there will be an informal ne By Nigel Rix (22/02/10) ... more

These reports will be used to provide an anlysis of opprotunities for the UK electronics sector from the investment in SKA.

The key technology areas to be reported are signal reception (antenna and phased array), signal processing, data transmission, data analysis and power utilisation.

This conference may well represent the tipping point between academic research and engineering design - so now is a critical time to understand the opprotunities available.
