SKA 2010 - Unique opportunity to meet the SKA developers from round the world - register by 5th March - The SKA is an iconic project for the electronics sector as it brings together the skills of both academics and industry to meet one of the most challenging developments of our time. To design and build the world's largest radio telescope is a project that requires global collaborations - and 1.5 Billion Euros! However the advances required to achieve the project's goals are also those advances required by industry for tomorrow data communication and data processing solutions. High speed communications, low noise & low power electronics, data processing based on multicore DSP and supercomputing technologies. SKA 2010 is being held in Manchester between 22nd and 25th March. This year's event may well mark the tipping point from academic research into engineering - and so is an ideal time for companies to participate in a unique conference bringing together the world's leading developers to discuss current progess and the next steps. Product Design for Low Volume Manufacture - Product design adds value to products by increasing their appeal. It helps improve the way they look and work, provides differentiation and helps them sell. Traditionally it has been associated with mass market products but increasingly new manufacturing techniques allow product design to add value to products manufactured in their 10s and 100s. Xentech Solutions to exhibit at the Best of British Consumer Electronics Show, London, 9th March 2010
by Kevin O'Brien (03 March 2010)
Xentech Solutions is proud to be exhibiting at The Best of British Consumer Electronics Show to be held at the Cass Business School, 106 Bunhill Row, London, EC1Y 8TZ on Tuesday 9th March 2010.
Xentech Solutions will be exhibiting at The Best of British Consumer Electronics Show where attendees can come along for an informal discussion about how to turn new ideas and technologies into world class products.

Xentech Solutions provides UK start-up companies with the capability to design and develop electronics products on a flexible basis without taking on full time staff during early stage funding. The experience of the team has been developed over 15 years of working with or for worldwide brands in the US and Europe, together with introducing products into volume manufacturing in Asia.

“The Best of British Consumer Electronics Show is a great opportunity to see the technologies behind some of the worlds best known consumer brands and it is also a great opportunity for Xentech Solutions to showcase its design and development skills in taking products from concept to high volume manufacturing” said Kevin O’Brien, Managing Director of Xentech Solutions.

By utilising a flexible model of engagement, Xentech Solutions can take on specific aspects of a product development, to ease a temporary resource or skills shortfall, or can take on the complete product development from initial concept through the design, development and testing stages and on to full regulatory approvals and volume manufacturing.

Core technologies used include ARM Cortex M3 processors from TI, Freescale PowerQUICC and i.MX processors, wired and wireless LAN technologies, embedded Linux and a wide range of FPGAs and PICs.

Profile Sensor - Cox-Smith Consultants have been working on a new sensor - see attached datasheet. I'm doing some market research to find if there are applications for it other than the original aircraft surface skew detection project. The part is in development, not production, but samples could be supplied in 3 to 6 months. If any of your colleagues can provide any feedback I'd be most appreciative. The item has been designed for low speed actuation with a large scale rack and pinion but the core technology could be used with higher speed small actuators. Chemical Etching; a metal manufacturing service? - Chemical etching is not a term many people associate with the production of metal products; in fact it is normally reserved for circuit board manufacture. The etching process can be thought to work in the same way for both process, just change the substrate for sheet metal. A few simple questions can normally determine if etching is something that applies to your company: Do you use any metal work in any of your products? Is any of this less than 1.5mm in thickness? Are these products based upon bespoke designs and not off-the shelf items? If you are involved in the design, use or purchasing of any metal products and can answer yes to the above, then there is a high probability that chemical etching is a service that would apply to you. Using this technique Qualitetch Components are able to provide a sub contract manufacturing service for any metal product under 1.5mm thick.
